Privacy Policy
Echoes is operated by Altauri, Inc. ("Altauri," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use Echoes, including our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
Echoes helps people preserve life stories through guided conversations, recordings, transcripts, AI-assisted story generation, and shareable timelines, chapters, and related content.
By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect when you:
- create or use an Echoes account;
- invite or are invited to participate in Echoes;
- record, upload, edit, read, listen to, or share stories and related content;

2. Roles in Echoes
Echoes may support different participant roles, including:
- Storyteller: the person whose story is being recorded or preserved;
- Sponsor: the person who creates, funds, manages, or helps organize a storyteller's Echoes experience; and
- Viewer or invitee: a person who is given access to view or listen to selected content.
Depending on the product experience, the storyteller and sponsor may have the same or different permissions. If another person invites you into Echoes, some of your account or story-related information may be visible to that person based on the permissions and sharing settings associated with that Echoes project.

We may collect the following information that you choose to provide:

- app usage information, session events, diagnostic data, crash logs, and performance data;
- information about how you interact with features, such as recording, playback, editing, sharing, and subscription flows;
- cookies, SDK data, and similar technologies used for authentication, analytics, security, and service performance.
C. Information from third parties
We may receive information from third parties such as:
- payment processors;
- authentication providers;
- analytics vendors;
- cloud storage, hosting, transcription, speech, or AI service providers;
- people who invite you to Echoes or upload information about you;
- app stores or platform providers.
4. Sensitive and Biographical Content
Echoes is designed to preserve highly personal stories, recordings, memories, and family history. As a result, content you submit may include sensitive or deeply personal information about you or other people, including life events, relationships, voice recordings, photographs, biographical details, and other personal memories.
Please only upload or record content that you have the right to share. If you provide content about another person, you are responsible for ensuring you have appropriate permission to do so.
5. How We Use Information
We may use personal information to:
- provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services;
- create and manage accounts and subscriptions;
- process payments and fulfill purchases;
- record, store, transcribe, summarize, organize, and generate story content;
- generate timelines, chapters, titles, summaries, and related outputs using AI-assisted features;
- let sponsors, storytellers, and authorized invitees access content as intended by the product;
- send notifications, service messages, and customer support communications;
- personalize prompts, questions, and product experiences;
- monitor performance, troubleshoot bugs, and protect the security and integrity of the Services;
- detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, misuse, and illegal activity;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms and policies; and
- conduct internal analytics and product improvement.
6. How We Use AI and Voice Technologies
Echoes may use third-party and/or in-house AI, speech, voice, transcription, and text-generation technologies to provide the Services.
We may use your recordings, transcripts, edits, and related content to:
- transcribe audio;
- generate story drafts, chapter drafts, summaries, titles, and related outputs;
- improve product quality and user experience within Echoes; and
- detect errors, quality issues, and misuse.
Our default commitment on training
Echoes does not use private user story content, recordings, transcripts, or uploaded memories to train public or general-purpose AI models for unrelated users unless we clearly ask for and receive your affirmative opt-in consent.
If we ever offer an optional program that uses customer content to improve model quality beyond delivering the customer's own Echoes experience, we will describe that separately and ask for explicit opt-in consent where required.
7. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell personal information to data brokers, and Echoes is not an advertising-supported product.
We may disclose information in the following circumstances:
A. With service providers
We may share information with vendors and processors that help us operate Echoes, such as providers for:
- cloud hosting and storage;
- payment processing;
- analytics and diagnostics;
- authentication and communications;
- transcription, speech processing, voice generation, or AI assistance; and
- customer support and security.
These providers may access information only as needed to perform services for us and subject to contractual restrictions where applicable.
B. With other Echoes participants and authorized viewers
Depending on the sharing settings and product design, content may be shared with sponsors, storytellers, collaborators, and viewers authorized by the account holder or person with sharing privileges.
For example:
- a sponsor may be able to view, listen to, or edit a storyteller's Echoes content if the product grants the sponsor that role;
- a storyteller may be able to view, listen to, or edit content associated with their own Echoes project; and
- a person with a link may be able to view or listen to content if a share link has been created and shared with them.
C. Shared links
If Echoes offers share links, those links may allow anyone who has the link to access the content made available through that link. Please treat share links as sensitive. If you do not want content to be accessible through a link, do not create or distribute one.
Echoes may also offer optional protections for shared links, such as passcode protection, expiration dates, or link revocation. Where those controls are available, you are responsible for configuring them appropriately for your intended sharing.
D. Legal, safety, and business transfers
We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to:
- comply with applicable law, legal process, or government request;
- protect the rights, property, safety, and security of Altauri, our users, or others;
- enforce our agreements and policies; or
- support a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar business transaction.
8. Ownership and Control of Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit to Echoes, subject to the rights you grant us to operate the Services.
Echoes is intended to be private by default, except to the extent you choose to share content with others through the product.
Where available, we may provide tools that let you:
- access your stories, transcripts, recordings, and generated outputs;
- edit or correct story content;
- download your content;
- delete content or your account; and
- control sharing settings.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain accounts, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect our business.
Unless a longer period is required by law or reasonably necessary for legitimate business purposes:
- account information is retained while your account is active;
- story content and related files are retained until you delete them or close the relevant account, subject to limited backup retention;
- payment and transaction records, including buyer contact details needed to locate purchases, may be retained for accounting, tax, customer support, and legal compliance purposes; and
- logs and analytics data may be retained for security, fraud prevention, diagnostics, and service improvement for a limited period.
Target deletion timeline
If you delete content or close your account, we will aim to:
- remove content from active systems within 30 days; and
- delete or overwrite retained backup copies within 90 days, unless a longer period is required for legal, security, fraud prevention, or disaster recovery reasons.
Some limited information may be retained where necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or maintain system integrity.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's Privacy
Echoes is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child has provided us personal information in violation of applicable law, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
If Echoes is later used for family storytelling involving minors, Altauri may adopt additional consent and account-management rules.
12. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

- correct inaccurate information;
- delete personal information;
- request a copy of your information;
- object to or restrict certain processing;

14. International Transfers
If you use Echoes from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
15. Third-Party Services
Echoes may rely on third-party services, including app stores, payment providers, analytics tools, cloud infrastructure, and AI or speech providers. Their handling of data is governed by their own terms and privacy notices where applicable.
